Why choose Cedar Cabinets
At Arctic Spas®, we never cut corners. This means you can feel confident that the cabinet we pick for your spa is going to be the best possible option. We use furniture grade, Western Red Cedar to build our cabinets, meaning this wood will always be knot, burn, and split free. Not only are the rich auburns and oranges of cedar beautiful to look at, this wood also has incredible longevity and durability, often lasting hundreds of years. And, because of this product’s natural integrity, there will be no need to sand down the cabinet when it comes time to perform any maintenance! In this article, we’ll explore the many advantages that cedar holds over its plastic counterparts. From durability to maintenance and insulation, an Arctic Spas® exclusive cedar cabinet truly stands apart from the rest.
One common concern about natural wood cabinetry is its susceptibility to pests. However, with cedar you will not need to worry about insects, ants, or mice as this specific wood produces an oil that functions as a natural chemical repellent, deterring critters from eating or burrowing through it. We know that there is nothing worse than opening your cabinet to find it overrun with pesky bugs, leading us to choose cedar as our preferred building material.
In regards to regular maintenance for your cabinet, there will be a few tasks you will need to perform with varying frequency, depending on the amount of sunlight that reaches your spa’s location. When it comes time to re-stain your cabinet, all you will need to do is give it a good wash, rinsing away any dirt, dust, and cobwebs while allowing it to dry fully afterwards. Then, it is as simple as dipping a clean cloth into your preferred stain and wiping it onto your cabinet in a straight back and forth motion. For the best result, use at least two coats and finish with a light spray of Cover & Cabinet renew. With a few easy steps, your cabinet will look as new as the day you first had it delivered!
Cedar cabinetry also offers easy repairs for any damages your spa might incur. Because Arctic Spas® uses natural wood products, we can easily repair any damages while having it look just like the original part. Additionally, these cabinets utilize a tongue and groove design, meaning pieces will fit together snugly without the possibility of coming apart, as is common with the bolt and screws of plastic cabinetry. Finally, the frames of these cabinets are built for easy transport, meaning you can move your spa to different locations with little hassle. With extra reinforcement created by rails running along the top and bottom of your cabinet, you can trust your spa will be able to stand up to any transport.
Depending on where you live, your spa may also need to withstand extreme weather. Here in Alberta, we have some of the harshest winters with temperatures frequently dropping below -30º Celsius. Therefore, as spa owners we need to be cognisant of what the cold is doing to our cabinet. Plastic paneling will often shrink when met with extreme cold, allowing the heat from inside your spa to escape, creating higher energy bills and the potential for your internal mechanisms to freeze and burst. Plastic cabinets can also shatter like glass when they become cold, leaving your spa completely unprotected. Cedar, on the other hand, can easily stand up to cold temperatures, while providing excellent insulation capabilities.
When shopping for your family’s next spa, save yourself time, money, and the hassle of future repairs by choosing an Arctic Spas® Cedar cabinet.

I have been an Arctic Spas® employee for just under ten years, moving my way from the Parts Department, to Administration, to Sales, and then onto the Dealer Development Representative Team. Outside of helping families find their perfect spa, I love traveling, hiking, catching up on the latest movie releases, and getting lost in a great mystery novel. If I’m not doing one of those hobbies, I’m probably spending time with my dogs, or checking in on the rescue puppy I sponsor in Mexico!
